This is a message template for sending to hateful people on social media (like self-identified misogynists and white supremacists). These people don’t disappear just because we block them or put a “DNI” (do not interact) on our profile. We need to convert our enemies into our friends to actually diminish the amount of hateful people in the world.
I’ve decided to rewrite this. I’ll leave the old one on a separate page, but I don’t believe it’s very effective. Saying something is better than saying nothing, but I think this one may get the point across in a way that’s easier to consider and understand.
Feel free to use these, but this is mostly for my own use. It’s mostly a jumping-off point for conversation to avoid rephrasing the same thing over and over.
You can provide information about superiority and inferiority complexes, toxic masculinity, and insecurity afterwards in conversation if there’s a response. Be friendly.
This one is for hate/anger based bigotry, addressed towards men:
I’m sure if I was you, I would feel exactly the same way you do. Sometimes men (or white people) are treated unfairly, their feelings are sometimes dismissed or belittled by angry people of minority groups. Boys are also taught growing up that they can’t be emotional, this in itself invalidates a lot of their feelings. Another thing is that boys are taught their worth comes from masculinity, leadership, and dominance – Rather than that worth being in who you are as a person.
Those things can stick with you and make you feel like you can’t open up to others. That’s compounded by other people are telling you that your thoughts and feelings don’t matter.
I don’t think any of these things justify hatred and oppression, but I can see why you would feel the way you do and I don’t hate you for it. I’m open to hearing about your opinions and how you got here if you ever want to talk.
Not all supremacists base their supremacy in anger, some neo-nazi’s base it in “cleansing” which they consider for the ultimate betterment of their “own kind.” Pre-emptive harm to others to combat potential harm to themselves and/or their ideals.
I’ll do a version for this kind of neo-nazi as well, after I know more about the ideology.
If you’re sending this to a woman you can just leave out the toxic masculinity bit. Most bigots I’ve encountered have been men.
